other towns - Cavalaire sur Mer; Gigaro

Hi there,

are any of the other little towns on the St Tropez peninsula worth a visit?

I notice they seem to have big beaches, and wonder if they are worth the journey if the rat race of ST get to you?

The D93 Route des Plages is the back road into Croix Valmer and is a lovely drive. It passes by this wine co-operative Cellier de Ramatuelle and their Special Rose is very drinkable

Gigaro is a lovely beach and not too crowded - finding a parking place can be tricky at times. There are some lovely walks at the far end of the road (east of Gigaro) in an area of protected countryside towards Cap Lardier.

Cavalaire is a much bigger town with an all-year-round population. Market is on Wednesday. The best part of the Bay of Cavalaire IMO is Plage d%26#39;Embarquement which is half-way between Croix Valmer and Cavalaire. You can drive down right next to the beach. Cavalaire also has a nice port area for a wander around with many restaurants but slightly cheaper than ST. It is a very popular town with the French.

Have you driven the coast road down to Le Lavandou? That is very pretty. Also have you been across to the Islands? Again very worthwhile.

Hi,

thank you for your reply.

I havnt been along the coast road to Le Lavandou, how far is it? is le Lavandou worth a trip?

and no, I didnt know about the islands, will have a look into that too.

It%26#39;s about 20kms from Cavalaire to Le Lavandou.

I find Le Lavandou a bit busy in Summer for my liking. You could always go up to Bormes-les-Mimosas which again will be busy but with pedestrians. Lovely views from up there.

The boats for the Islands go from Croix Valmer (Plage d%26#39;Embarquement), Cavalaire and Le Lavandou also from Giens but that is getting too far away.

Hi,

If you%26#39;re interested in the St. Tropez peninsula, small perched village of Gassin and Ramatuelle make for interesting visits.

Both are inland, away from the beaches. From Ramatuelle, you can hike up to take a look at the restored windmills of Moulin de Paillas. For a change from the beach, you%26#39;ll find a few vineyards in this area too.

Personally, I love to wander along the coastal path for a total change from beach lizarding. Nice around Cap Camarat, Cap Taillat, Cap Lardier that you can take from Gigaro.

Le Lavandou does not have the old town attraction of Gassin or Bormes_les-Mimosas or so many other wonderful towns in the region. It was recently built (1950%26#39;s I think) and caters to summertime visitors with plenty of souvenir shops, fast snacks, etc. Nice beach though, but no need to drive all the way there for that - the St Tropez peninsula has a beach for most any taste.

The islands are definitely fun. If you%26#39;re there for a short time, I recommend you just soak in the sites closer-by rather than spend time on the (busy) roads.

Enjoy!
