Advice on Loire Valley Itinerary

After searching previous posts on this site and others I%26#39;ve compiled a general outline for our 2 day trip from Paris to the Loire Valley in late July. I would greatly appreciate some help in regards to the general flow, timeline, sites and whether I am missing something important.

Day 1:

9am. Arrive in Loire Valley. Pick up car.

Visit Chateaux Blois.

Drive along to Veigne for a riverside walk.

Lunch at L%26#39;Aubiniere in Saint Ouen les Vignes

5km north of Amboise.

4pm. Check into hotel Le Manoir les Minimes in

Amboise

5pm. Tour Chateaux Chambord and stay for Son et

Lumiere at Chateaux Chambord

Day 2:

7am. Breakfast in nearby village.

9am. Visit Tours

11am. Visit Chateaux Chenonceau

2pm. Visit Chateaux Clos Lucé

6pm. Drop of car at train station.

TBH I%26#39;m not too sure about timings, so hopefully a local like Imisscornwall will appear with closer advice.

However, what I will say is - have you actually looked at a map of the area. If so, then perhaps you are aware that from Blois to Amboise to Chambord on day 1 you are going to be doing an awful lot of driving about, backtracking over roads you have already coverd. Veigne is actually just south of Tours, so I can%26#39;t see you getting from Blois, including Chateau,to Veigne and back to Chambord and stopping at Amboise all in one day

Have a closer look at a MAP and plot up a more sensible Circuit!

This website will help a lot with drive times etc, all the Chateau will take a good couple of hours to visit, so you really are trying to pack a lot in!

I realise you have booked a hotel at Amboise, and the distances involved are not great. But you start at Blois almost reach Tours (for a riverside walk?) then backtrack past Amboise and Blois to Chambord, and have an hours return drive.

Tours is a major city. You won%26#39;t appreciate it in a couple of hours, especially if that includes driving to Chenonceau for 11 am.

Again, 3 hrs at Chenonceau is enough to see the place and have luch, but you have to drive to Clos Luce in that time too.

Everything can be seen, superficially, but this is a very condensed itinreary.

Than k you for the suggestions. per both your advice I have reconfigured out itinerary to the one posted below. I am not sure how ambitious this is, but I figured we%26#39;d try to maximize our time. if we do end up staying longer at a Chateau we could always cut one out on the fly. Please let me know what you think.

Day 1:

9am. Arrive in St Pierre de Corps. Pick up car.

10am. Drive to Chateaux Chenonceau.

1pm. Drive to Amboise. Visit Chateau Clos Lucé

and surrounding city.

3pm. Lunch at L%26#39;Aubiniere in Saint Ouen les Vignes.

4pm. Check into hotel Le Manoir les Minimes in

Amboise

5pm. Tour Chateaux Chambord and stay for Son et

Lumiere at Chateaux Chambord

Day 2:

7am. Drive along to Veigne.

9:00 Visit Chateaux Chateau d%26#39;azay-le-rideau

1:00pm Visit Chateaux Villandry

5:00pm. Drop of car at train station.

I think day 1 is still very tight.

On day 1, after Chenonceaux, I think you should head straight to L%26#39;Aubiniere for lunch. I am not certain they would still be serving at 3 pm. Then,

after lunch, have a look around Amboise and Clos Lucé and book into your hotel. Then Chambord in the evening.

On day 2, I am curious why you want to head to Veigné for your walk. Veigné is on the Indre river, and although it is fun watching the canoeists on the weir, in my opinion there is nothing special about it. You could walk along the Loire at Amboise, or the Indre at Azay le Rideau.

I agree with Sunlover about day 1 being too tight.

Most restaurants last-orders are at 2.30 (at the latest).

Bear in mind Chambord is an hours drive from Amboise and the Chateau closes at 7.30pm. The restaurants in the entrance to the Chateau close at 8pm.

If you are in good time Blois is 25 minutes away and could be a possible option for dinner. You would also get the chance to see the Chateau de Blois from the outside.

The Son et Lumiere at Chambord is fantastic (with live performers as well as the light show) and well worth a visit but does not start until 10pm and lasts almost an hour.

Then of course it will be another hour back to your hotel.
