how touristy is lie Saint-Louis?

keen to stay on one of the islands but will we simply be staying in the tourist part of town where locals don%26#39;t go?

Never stayed on the island, but have walked around it, and it doesnt feel touristy at all. We saw mostly locals. I perceived it as a classy, cozy, laid back place. Very pleasant.

A lot of (rather rich) locals live on Ile Saint-Louis, but it is visited by a lot of tourists every day.

Personally I would not stay there, because the restaurants and bars are meant for (and exclusively visited by) tourists.

My favourite area for staying in Paris is le Quartier Latin: very central, pleasant brasseries and restaurants and not crowded with tourists.

If you stay on Ile St. Louis, you will absolutely love it. It feels like a small village. It%26#39;s a very tiny island, so you%26#39;d think it would be overrun with tourists, but it%26#39;s nothing like, for instance, the rue de la Huchette near Place St. Michel.

We have rented an apartment on Ile St. Louis for our fall visit to Paris. We did so because when we were on the island last trip, we felt like we had escaped all the tourism. Its quiet, quaint and a pleasant place to visit - the night we were there it was almost deserted, not at all like the Latin Quarter or the Marais.

I%26#39;ve stayed on the Ile St. Louis and would do it again in a heartbeat. It%26#39;s a lovely, Quaint small island. We stopped at the same small grocery everyday for a piece of fruit and we were always warmly greated by the shopkeeper.

I stayed on Ile St. Louis. I think it is the best place to stay in Paris. It does have a small village feel to it.

During the day and evening, the place is filled with tourists. It is a %26quot;must see%26quot; on most people%26#39;s lists and Ile St. Louis is very small. So, yes, there are lots of tourists. However, what makes it fantastic is that in the morning and later in the evening, all the tourists leave the island and go stay where ever they are staying. The only people left are the natives who live there and the people vacationing in the apartments and the 2-3 hotels on the island. That is when it is magic on the island. You walk to the patisserie on Rue St. Louis to get a pain au chocolate or the boulangerie to get some bread or the cheese market and all you see are shop owners getting ready for their day, you see trucks making deliveries, during the school year, you see parents walking their children to the elementary school on Rue St. Louis, you see natives out walking their dogs, or people walking to the Metro to go to work. You absolutely feel like you live there. It is just fantastic. On this Forum I%26#39;ve never read about someone who stayed on Ile St. Louis who regretted it. And if you ask if Ile St. Louis is a good place to stay, or which is better as a place to stay-Ile St. Louis or _________, you get Ile St. Louis as the answer most or all of the time.

Ile Saint Louis can be busy at tourist hours (10:00 to 5:00) and only on the main drag but it is mostly quiet. Even when it is %26quot;busy%26quot; it is quiet compared to Sacre Coeur or Notre Dame!

I think the tourists are there until about 10pm because many of the restaurants on the island are very popular and people seek them out. However, it is true that most of the tourists stay on Rue St. Louis which is the main road down the center of the island. The other streets are very quiet. Again, at night it is very quiet and the same is true for the morning. During the day you aren%26#39;t there anyway--or your apartment faces a courtyard like mine did and there is no noise anywhere.

I just can%26#39;t say enough about how wonderful it is to stay here. It truly enhances the trip!
