New Years

Hi,

Have been looking through old forums about information for New Years. I have struggled to find any really recent helpful info for New Years. Most people havent had that great experience. I was just chasing some info so we can decide what will be the best way to celebrate the new year in Paris.

We will be a party of 4 adults and 2 children 11 and 13. Are there fire works?? What would be the best vantage point for seeing these. Would we be better enjoying the night in a restaurant looking over the Champs Elysees?? Would a river cruise including dinner be a good option?? Does anyone have any recommendations for a river cruise including dinner etc.

Would really appreciate any info and experiences from Paris New Years to help decide what we can do. Thanks so much

We spent New Years in Paris 2 years ago. The areas of Chamnps Elysees and Trocadero (palace de Chaillot) were filled with people, there were vendors of crepes and other little things, very festive. However, no fireworks, etc. Did the Seine cruise around 9:30 or 10:00pm, but since we had arrived that same morning on the train from Spain my boys (two 11 year old) were exhausted so we ended up going back to our apartment before midnight. I think your idea of a dinner cruise at around midnight is good; although probably more expensive than on any other night.

Bonne chance!

It is unlikely there will be any fireworks. The French tradition for New Year%26#39;s Eve (the feast day of St. Sylvestre) is to enjoy a celebratory evening meal either at home or in a local restaurant followed by a stroll in the streets after midnight to wish everyone %26quot;Bonne Année%26quot;

Celebrated 2006, 2007 %26amp; 2008 new years in Paris. Although we have rang in the NYE on Champs Elysees once, that was during 2000, when we walked over there from the Eiffel Tower. That was the only I time I%26#39;ve encountered fireworks during NYE in Paris. So, although I%26#39;m tempted to say %26quot;go for a restaurant, don%26#39;t do Champs Elysees, it%26#39;s very loud, crowded and chaotic%26quot;, I also realize that it might be somewhat of interst to someone who%26#39;ll be doing it for the first time. Just remember, lots of drunken people, lots of kids throwing the petards (what%26#39;s the word for it?) right under your feet and overall, it%26#39;ll be over very quickly and you%26#39;ll need to make your way back through all of this madness. Whereas things will be different in a restaurant, if you manage to be somewhere with a view.
