Chamonix or Morzine/Les Gets for Biking and Hiking

Hi there

I’m planning a trip in the summer and deliberating over staying in Chamonix or Morzine/Les Gets. I stayed in Les Gets last year and loved the bike trails out there. I’m looking for a base that offers a good mix of biking and some options for via ferrata and hiking as well. I’ve never been to Chamonix before and don’t know how it compares to Les Gets as a resort. Can anyone recommend one base over the other? Thanks

Chamonix and Les Gets are very different places. The biggest difference is in the terrain. Chamonix is steep, Portes de Soleil flatter in comparison. This makes Cham better suited to steep-side-friendly activities, such as paragliding / hiking / climbing / via ferrata / mountaineering, and Les Gets better for biking.

That%26#39;s not to say that Cham doesn%26#39;t have a great network of bikable trails and good shops. Visit www.chamonix.com for a mountain bike map and links to guides. The three shops offering bike rental in Chamonix are Zero G (www.zerogchx.com), Grand Bi and Legend.

I%26#39;d take Chamonix everytime! Hope this helps.
