traveling from Lucca, Italy to southern France

there will be 4 of us going from Lucca to Monaco, Monte Carlo, St Tropez, etc in early to mid September - what is the best way to travel?

i would guess at train as i wouldnt think its that far. lucca is lovely and you will beable toget trains from florence. just had a quick look on trenitalia.com and they do trains from florence to nice. you have to change at pisa and genova which is better for you if you are coming from lucca as you just get the train to pisa and take the train from there to nice.check out their site.the systems pretty easy to use

It%26#39;s about a 5-hour drive, just for reference.

|||

yeah of course you could always drive.guess it depends on whether you want the freedom of driving and stopping off along the way or just want to get there without having to drive yourself and arrange maps etc

so is the train system in Italy/France reliable, on time, clean, easy to get tickets?? I looked at the website, and it looks fairly easy to navigate.

i used the train when staying in florence to go to lucca and pisa. it was very easy. the ticket machines are in both italian and english so you can just get a ticket from there if you like.platforms ect were easy to navigate. and the rains were clean and on time and cheap (well anythings cheap when u live in the Uk!) just remember to validate your tickets in the yellow boxes on the platform other wise you will get a fine if caught.

thanks, sounds like the way to go!!
