Bastille day going on as planned with A LOT of security. Watched parade on tv (could hear planes fly over my building) and crowd on Champs Elysees was slim which means it was difficult to go there and police was allowing only a certain number of people. I gave up trying last year.

Times are changing though and museums that normally open on Monday were open as well as some stores and department stores. I shopped at Printemps and Galeries Lafayette less crowded than usual. It was a beautiful summer day in Paris with cool morning and comfortable rest of the day.

Fireworks will be shot from Trocadero and that whole area was already close to public a couple of days ago. Champs de Mars will be THE place to go. Opera music will accompany fireworks (Mozart, Puccini, Bizet and Gershwin) for a fantastic show as predicted by newspapers. Carla also looked fab this morning!

la photograhe,

Sadly, I%26#39;m not surprised by the security. Fireworks from the Trocadero sounds fantastic. Are you going to get close enough to see them?

I have just got back home from the fireworks display at Descartes.

They closed the main bridge over the river Creuse, and used the bridge as the %26quot;launch site%26quot; for the fireworks, with people lining the banks of the river. It started at 11pm, and lasted about 20 minutes. It is totally free, but I hate to think what it costs!

This scene will have been repeated throughout France, either tonight, or Sunday night. It is very much a family event, with children of all ages. As a Brit who left the UK 11 years ago, I find this one of the delightful aspects of living in France, but cannot imagine the same type of thing happening in the UK without trouble and hooliganism.

We have spent many Bastille Days in France the best are with our cousins in Alsace -d ancing, parties, foods, drinks and fireworks!

I think the most beautiful Bastille Fireworks were in Carcasonne ....so surreal!... over the entire length of the castle! Wonderful parties/picnics in the forest during the day also!

Albi %26#39;s fireworks were nice too.

As Discover mentioned ; the fireworks at Carcassonne must be fantastic (unfortuanately , have never been there during the show) --- I%26#39;ve seen some fantastic still photos of it and tried to access it a while ago by webcam with , no luck (what a shame). I did see the fireworks %26amp; crowds near the Eiffel Tower via webcam but it left a lot to be desired (theres obviously no substitute for being there in person). A few years ago , I saw (on TV) a fantastic fireworks display being launched from the Tower on New Years and wondered why don%26#39;t do that every year (?) -- I can think of no better platform (except maybe Carcassonne or the Giza Pyramids).
