Basque Country in November

Hello. I am going to be visiting the Basque country in November. Our purpose for the trip is to visit St. Jean Pied de Port, where we once had relatives. We also hope to visit, San Sebastian, Bilboa, and Bordeaux. We fly out of Bordeaux so will spend our last night there. We are considering renting a house in either Hossegor or near Lekeitio and making day trips from there, perhaps spending one night in St. Jean Pied de Port. Any suggestions on either of these locations? A better location?

Hossegor is pretty dead in November and a bit out of the way; I would consider a location on the Spanish side to stay as there will be more going on. Nevertheless, check prices as they may be considerably lower in France during that season. In that case, Bayonne might be a better option as it is more centrally located than Hossegor and about an hour from Saint Jean Pied de Port. The route from Bayonne to Saint Jean Pied de Port is full of very lovely little towns worth visiting. The only drawback is that in November, the weather might not be so nice.

The French Basque Country is easily reached from San Sebastian and its surrounding area. Lekeitio is a nice town but also out of the way if the only place you are planning to visit in Bizkaia is Bilbao. You can easily do a day trip to Bilbao from San Sebastian.

Also, I suppose you%26#39;ll be driving. That is the easiest and fastest way to get around here, especially on the French side. This is getting wordy; I%26#39;ll stop now!

why don%26#39;t you stay at Saint Jean de Luz :

www.hotel-la-deviniere.com , a cosy guest house or B%26amp;B as you prefer. And you stay at equal distance of San Sebastian, a very nice and clean town, and Bayonne and Biarritz ...and St Jean Pied de Port ...

and sorry i forgot another one, better than La Deviniere :

Thank you all for such great information! I hope I can impose with a few more questions. We have a total of 6 nights in this region. Would you suggest staying near St. Jean de Luz or San Sebastian the entire time with a night in St. Jean Pied de Port or splitting our time with 2 nights in St. Jean de Luz or San Sebastian, 2 nights in St. Jean Pied de Port and 2 nights in Bordeaux?

well do you really want to pack/unpack every 2 days. I suggest you to stay at St Jean de Luz, about 30 minutes from San Sebastian, an hour from St Jean Pied de Port, visit Espelette, then you can go back to Bordeaux for the last night. By the way i guess you hire a car !!

I agree. Things are relatively close and it wouldn%26#39;t be worth moving from hotel to hotel. Saint Jean de Luz is a good option that I forgot to mention. It is a smaller town than Bayonne or San Sebastian but it is nice, too. One thing, though: if you want something to do both day and night, I suggest the Spanish side or Biarritz, as smaller towns in France tend not to have too much going on after dinner, especially that time of year!
