Please help me decide where to stay in Paris :)

My boyfriend and I are going to Paris in September and are trying to decide where to stay. We are in our late 20%26#39;s and want a central location to see the sights during the day. We also want to stay in a nice area where there are good restaurants and bars near the hotel for evening fun.

We%26#39;ve heard the following are good: Latin Quarter, Marais, Rue Cler - but which is the best for us?

Thanks for your help!

Try an apartment on Ile St. Louis -- so central and lively -- we loved it.

You%26#39;re in your %26#39;20%26#39;s and want to party? Paris ain%26#39;t Tempe!

Although a bit younger/different than my taste, I%26#39;d think the Latin Quarter, Isle St. Louis or Marais would be you location of choice. Depending on the season, Montparnasse can be pretty happening, but the Latin Quarter, Isle St. Louis or Marais are probably best.....

Lots of hotels in all the budget ranges are available...... I think, if I were your age, I%26#39;d stay in the Marais...........

I think September is a busy month in Paris just as it is in Rome, so - there are restaurants and brasseries almost everywhere in Paris - especially in the areas with lots of hotels, so no worries there.

See what you can find in the Latin Quarter or the Marais. I think either would suit your needs very well. Don%26#39;t let the fact that the Latin Quarter is a university area put you off. Many French students stay on for graduate degrees and are your ages, and the undergraduate students always seem much older than they are, except when they can%26#39;t figure out how to stop talking politics.

Your biggest limitation is the availability of hotel rooms. You%26#39;d better go to www.venere.com and see what you can find. Venere%26#39;s listings show a picture, the rate, the location on a map of the city, and availability. Once you have located two or three that appeal to you, read the venere reviews and come back to the forum and read the reviews here, as well. If you find something with good reviews in both places, grab it.

Bonne chance et bon voyage.

Hmmm. Looks like it’s another vote for the Ile de la Cite/Ile St Louis (4th), the Marais (4th), or the Latin Quarter.

And another for an apartment, depending on how long you’re staying…

stay in the Latin Quarter, in the 6th, it%26#39;s the best area for night life ...

I would advice the Quartier Latin two - i live there, so I would know.

Also, if you are planning to stay long (a week or more), I would advice to rent an apartment rather than an hotel - I think it adds a lot to your experience of Paris. I sometimes rent mine when I am not at home (but in september, I will be at home, so this is *not* an offer), and people who rented it have always loved their stay and were enthusiastic. They felt much more at home and less touristy.

Take a look at this web site for hotels, apartments and restaurants in the Marais. It also includes the Isle St Louis. The Marais is very lively in the evening, very safe and centrally located. The web site offers a lot of cultural tips and links to entertainment in the area. However, you can%26#39;t go wrong by staying in the Latin Quarter or St Germain des Pris. The Marais is a lot older than the other arrondissments, and I think more charming.

Thank you everyone for your help!! Based on your help, we are going to stay in the Latin Quarter. I loved the comment about Paris not being Tempe from sdjeff4sc. At least you know what we are used to :)

Thanks also for the Paris guide from Pixfield. We are going to print it out and use as a guide.

This really is a wonderful site - thanks again for your help!
