Safety in Paris

We are two families travelling to Paris in August 2008. Is it safe to transit from La Chappel to Gare du Nord at midnight 0000h ? How safe is it with kids and ladies?

You%26#39;ll probably have to take a cab -- at midnight, you%26#39;re running up against the last scheduled service of the night on many of the bus and metro lines.

I%26#39;m assuming you have a very late train?

I agree with Sunshine817. Take a cab--or two cabs. The metro stops running about then and the buses stop even earlier than that.

There is a bus which runs during the night. It is called the Noctilien - check out this site.

There is a page where you can type in where you are starting from and where you are going to find your options.

All in all, I think taxi is the best. Paris is a safe city but public transportation is very limited at best this late at night.

A cab is may be more convenient, but not because there are no more metro at midnight as some posters says! Métro doesn%26#39;t stop at midnight, it runs from 5:20 am to 1:20 am on weekdays, and 2:15am on Saturdays and on special days (such as July 13th!).

Here is all useful info:

Metro is perfectly safe at midnight.

Thanks only-lyon. Someone else posted recently that the buses stopped around 10pm and the metro stopped at about midnight on weekdays and about 1am on weekends. It is great to have that cleared up.

Frankly, it would take you longer and involve jumping through more hoops trying to mak a Metro connection between LA CHAPELLE Metro and GARE du NORD. You can probably walk there, via the underground CORRESPONDANCE passageway (from La Chapelle Metro to Gare du Nord) or above-ground (approx 600-700 meters) in less time than making a Metro connection.

I suppose that personal safety is a concern...and this isn%26#39;t one of Paris most %26#39;..charming..%26#39; neighborhoods (I suppose %26#39;seedy%26#39; best describes it)at any time of day or night...but with a relatively large %26#39;group%26#39; there%26#39;s probably more perception of threat than actuality of it. But...you can minimize even this perception by using the underground, inter-station CORRESPONDANCE passageway.

Via TAXI PARISIAN--even with 4th/5th passenger and luggage surcharges and late-night %26#39;B%26#39; fare rate--it%26#39;s a relatively cheap taxi(s) ride for so short a distance.

Oops, I didn%26#39;t realize you are asking getting from la Chapelle to Gare du Nord, that is a very short distance! You could either walk or take the bus (it is a 2/3 minute ride only).
