Where to purchase train tickets??

Hi~ I would like some advice please about buying some train tickets: Paris to Cherbourg. Should I buy them online before I leave for France, or just buy them at the train station in Paris? Same question for travelling from Paris to Nice. Travel time is in October. Do I need to reserve?

Thanks.

Go to the SNCF boutiques that are all over Paris.

For October, you do not need to reserve in advance as there are no holidays or school vacation. You may not get the 8:15 train but then you will get the 9:15 - for example.

Merci La Photographe - This is good to know.

Even though the train is unlikely to be sold out, you might get a deeply discounted (%26quot;prem%26quot;) ticket by booking well in advance. Try going on the site now, for the same route and time of week (e.g., weekday, weekend, whatever) and see what fares you are offered if booking about 90 days out (the max you can do) vs. a week - if it makes a big difference to the fare, then that%26#39;s a reason to book ahead. If not, then just wait and get them a day or two ahead.

Thanks Berkeley - will do. Any discount is a bonus!

I have bookmarked the TGV Train ticket site - Official Canada site for all TGV fares from Rail Europe. Do you think this is the best site to get info on or is there another one that you know of? Or are they all pretty much the same depending on what country you are in? This site goes to Rail Europe but gives me the fares in CDN $$. Thanks for the help.

Hello Shackvancouver the train to cherbourg no reservation needed . paris to nice TGV (high speed train)reservation compulsary. recommend buy tickets two or three days before travel for TGV .buy ticket to cherbourg on the day

You should definitively book your TGV trip in advance to get better fares. But no need to make a reservation for Paris to Cherbourg. Here is the website where you may get %26quot;Prem%26#39;s%26quot; tickets:

www.voyages-sncf.com/leisure/fr/launch/home/

I checked right now, you can get tickets for only 17€ (one way Paris-Nice), or the 1st class for cheaper than 2nd class (at 40€ only), but you can%26#39;t change your schedule.

To other posters here: be careful, not only tourists or holiday makers travel on the TGV. So even if it is not a holiday period TGV are very often fully booked with business travellers.

Thanks everyone - everything is starting to make sense to me now!I%26#39;m understnding the sncf website much better now thanks to your help.
