Hi, my husband and I I have booked flights into Marseille and out of Barcelona for next week. We have two weeks and were planing on speding three days at our arrival and departure points. So we are looking for two suggestions for the the time in between. We will be hiring a car and would like to do one stop on the coast and do a second stop in a vineyard. Can anyone suggests two places to base ourselfes for a few days with nice restaurants and not too busy. Cheers!

I recommend the area around the medieval town of Aigues Mortes and the city of Montpellier. We love it there. Aigues Mortes is walled and has lots of restaurants and cafe%26#39;s to choose from. Lots of little galleries to wander around at night and a central square, where you can sit out and relax in the evenings.You can day-trip to Arles, Nimes, or Avignon from here. Le Grau du Roi is near here, a port with lots of seafood restaurants along the pier. The beaches nearby of L%26#39;Espiguette and Le Grand Travers are fabulous sandy beaches, great for picnic days. Montpellier if a great city to stay in, lovely cafe%26#39;s and lot of Roman Architecture to view. Stay in Antigone area for accessability It%26#39;s about 3 1/2 hrs drive to Barcelona from here. Hope this helps.B

I like Aigues Mortes - near the coast ETC - two reservations at that time of year. It is a tourist magnet and it is in the Camargue - lots of Mosquitoes.
You say you want to spend three days at your arrival - Marseille? A day there is enough.
Can I suggest you seriously think about a week in the area north of Marseille hiring a gite (cottage).
You could base yourself in a small village near Avignon in the Alpilles ar Luberon park.
This would give you easy access to the Cotes du Rhone vineyards as well as making it possible to visit places like Aigues Mort, Arles, St Remy, Pont du Gard, Avignon etc. Getting a feel for Provence
You could then comfortably motor to Barcelona perhaps visiting a coastal village near or in Spain.
Do watch the cost of car hire especially if you are taking it accross the boarder into Spain as this really racks up the rental price!
Also this is peak holiday season so rooms are not going to be easy to find.
If you want a gite, try gites de france and if the budget allows go for one with a swimming pool.
