Hotel or Guest House near the Train Station?

Just looking for some views on this matter, any particular that is value for money given the fact I%26#39;m only staying one night.

Hi Rockmore and welcome to the forum!

Have a look at the hotels on the left of this page, there are loads, but you dont want to stay too near to the station, its not a very nice area, a bit sleazy. Ten minutes away and you are fine. Even tho you are only staying one night, you want to be near the promenade, pedestrian area and old town.

I agree with Sunnybun, the only time I stayed in Nice it was in a backpacker hotel right by the station, which turned out to have a %26#39;naughty%26#39; shop next door. Having paid in advance, I couldn%26#39;t leave and though the place was dirt cheap it was a bad bargain as I didn%26#39;t feel safe there, didn%26#39;t sleep properly for a week, and was 20 minutes%26#39; walk from old town.

I don%26#39;t mind the area around the station but I am sure I would if I was female. The Durante is close but in a nice street. I often stay at the Saint Georges which is a little further away and a little more expensive. The reviews give a good idea of both hotels.

There are some very cheap hotels just across the road from the station but even I would draw the line well above considering those.

Depends if you want to pay by the hour or by the night! Find something near %26quot;Old Town%26quot;; that%26#39;s where all the action is for atmosphere, food, drink, people, people watching, just having a great (and trouble-free) time! It%26#39;s only 10 minutes walk to the station.

Buddy that would be my advice. But in PMs to me Rockmore is looking at paying 40E per night. I told him that is hostel level and he needs to pay more. The area around Nice Ville staion is not a credit to Nice. But you don%26#39;t have to walk far to be in a pleasant area.
