Best Cognac tour

Could anyone recommend the best Cognac house tour?

|||

Over the last 3 or 4 years I have done the tours of Courvoissier, Camus, Otard, Remy and Hennessy. I would say that the Hennessy trip is all round the best with the little boat ride in the middle. The Remy tour (a short way out of Cognac) is also pretty good with the train ride making things easy on your legs - it is very professional, a bit too professional if anything. Otard was not bad, the Chateau is very pretty. Courvoissier is in Jarnac and has a small Napoleon memorablilia museum, but is otherwise small and not so pretty.

With Hennessy you could do a more comprehensive tasting taking in better quality cognac at a higher cost. This needed to be pre-booked.

If you are prepared to drive a bit, there is a smaller cognac house to go to which is owned by M Jean Balluet. It isn%26#39;t a fancy touristy place like the above tours, but a fairly basic working cognac house. The quality of the cognac compared to the price is very good. But what makes it is the tour round the factory by M Balluet whose English is very good and sense of humour is even better. It is a fair drive on from Jarnac the address is

1 rue des Ardillères,

17490 Neuvicq Le Château

Téléphone: (+33) 5 46 26 64 74

Well worth a trip if you want something different. probably best to phone and check that M Balluet will be in as his assistant doesn%26#39;t speak much English.

We did them all in one drunken day! They were all pretty good!

We liked the boat one and the train one too!

I think they were all different and good and the tasting were great and the wonderful smell of the town can just get one off!

If you have limited time, I believe the Hennessy is the most interesting and well done.

definately recommend Martell.

%26#39;The best Cognac house tour%26#39;?

Is that the best tour of the houses in Cognac town? I%26#39;ve done 4. Is the quality of the cognac important or the tour itself? As already mentioned you can ride a train, boat.... The cognac you like best is probably the one to visit, why visit one you like less?

Or is it the best tour of a producer in the Cognac region? Placid, ornate grounds with springs and blue lakes, set in woodland walks with footbridges. Followed by a tasting of their wares in the family chateau. I%26#39;ve been twice, first time I had a 1960%26#39;s cognac (free), and the second time a 1923 cognac (free)! The big houses have nothing like this.

If you want to see how it is made - the production distillery is a few miles away.
