Marseille for a day and a night ?

What should we do on our short visit to Marseille,we arrive late at night so we were thinking of going to the old port area for some food and a few drinks,is this a good area to do this ?

Also we will be heading to Toulon for 2 nights but we have the option of going back to Marseille for the last one ,do you think we should stay in Toulon or go back to Marseille ?

Please advise.

Definitely the area around the port for a great choice of places to dine and have a few drinks.

I would stay in Toulon for the last night, but spend the time in Hyeres, my favourite place on the coast, you can eat in the old town (I like l%26#39;Odysse) visit the ruined castle and Villa Noailles and the gorgeous garden around it, go down to the end of the Giens peninsula and take the boat from Tour Fondue to Porquerolles and walk round to plage d%26#39;argent, my favourite ever beach . . . loads to do. Hyeres market is on a Saturday, if that%26#39;s of any interest.

Thanks for the info,I like the sound of Hyeres, what would be the best way to get there train or if its not to expensive taxi ?? we would be comming back later at night so im not to sure about the train times..Also the boat trip sounds good ,do we have enough time to do all this in one day ? (i hope so )

Any other info would be good..

If you go to ter-sncf.com/Paca/carte_horaires/index.asp# and choose fiche horaire 01, you%26#39;ll get the train times for the Marseille-Hyeres line which stops at Toulon. There are about 6 or 8 a day.

Additionally www.sodetrav.fr will give you the times from Toulon to Hyeres by bus.

To get to Tour Fondue for the boat to the islands you need line 67 or 68 from the bus station. The timetables should also be on the sodetrav website but I can%26#39;t find them! One or other of them also stops at the train station (the bus station is 10 minutes%26#39; walk north of the train station).

Do you know what time the boats stop running between

Hyeres and Tour fondue and then again from Tour fondue and Hyeres ??

Here you are:

www.tlv-tvm.com/tarifs-horaires/tour.htm

Don%26#39;t forget that Tour Fondue is actually part of Giens rather than Hyeres town.

See www.hyeres-tourisme.com

The hop on/off tour bus can be caught at the vieux port. Tickets may be bought either on the bus or the tourist bureau. This gives you an overview of marseille
