Haven%26#39;t done the leg work on the maps, but from experience I can tell you that Normandy will be a 2hour train trip, or about 2.5 hours drive, depending where you want to go.
Alps will be a 3.75 hour train trip - that%26#39;s to Annecy. Driving would take maybe 6 hours. Not done that trip by road for a long time. It%26#39;s well over 300 miles.

I was in the French Alps last September. I took the train to Lyon (2-2.5 hr. TGV ride). Then the drive to the Alps is about 1.5-2 hour drive. They are so beautiful!
