Chateau in Blois, whats there

Sorry if this is being totally ignorant, but i have read many threads that mention the chateau in Blois. Could you please tell me what there is to do there, is it like visiting a grand stately home in England. I really would appreciate any information on this as we are staying in Blois for 2 nights and we are looking for ideas of what to do.

The Château de Blois has great historical and architectural significance. It is located on a hill in the center of town. For a quick description of the highlights, including the Spiral Staircase of François I, check this link:

Very nearby are the châteaux of Chambord and Cheverny - I highly recommend visits to both.

As previously mentioned the Chateau de Blois is one of the more interesting Chateau on the Loire.

It has a similar feel to that of a stately home in England but many including Blois are furnished quite differently, due to the fact that they were actually lived in last during the 15th and 16th centuries, so the luxurious furniture, carpets and curtains often seen in the grand houses of England were just not around at that time.

The Maison de la Magie, opposite the chateau is well worth a visit (with or without children)-

The Natural History Museum is also worth a visit-

Cheverney and Chambord have already been mentioned but the smaller less well known Chateau de Beauregard is is also excellent with lovely gardens and very close to Blois-

If you have any more specific questions please ask...

you will find the Tourist Office in Blois practically opposite the Chateau at the top of the hill.

Ask them about the self-guided town walks. There are 4 of them, with different themes, that take you through various interesting parts of the town, including one that goes south of the river.

WELL worth spending some time on!

Cheverney and Chambord are standouts - am in Blois now and with the weather in a benevolent mood it is just a great holiday -the local buses take you to these chateaux and the Tourist office really obliging and right beside the Blois castle itself(actually its a bit garish and too 1800s over restored for my taste but still magnificent)
