Air Conditioning a must for middle of July in Nice..?

Hi folks, myself %26amp; the OH are off to Nice for the first time on Saturday - cannot wait!

Just wondering if aircon would be a must for 12th-19th July, the forecast seems to be just for weather in the high 20s for the week?

Am trying to decide between a very nice looking 1st floor apt on the west side of Place Massena without A/C %26amp; a 2nd floor apt on Avenue Jean Medicin (between Rue Massena %26amp; Rue de la Liberte) which has A/C %26amp; a small balcony. The windows in both are double glazed.

Would be very, very grateful for any and all imput :)

IMO Aircon is a must then. It is the night time you need it . The temperature may be a few degs cooler than the day but there is still high humidity and you sleep much better with A/C. We were there exactly a year ago for 5 days. One day we were having an al fresco lunch in one of the alleyways between Rue Garibaldi and PDA. There was a neon-lit digital thermometer above a pharmacy further down the alley. When we sat down for lunch it showed 28C. During the meal I watched it get up to 31C. Man that was hot and humid.

Go for the second of the 2 you mention. It is in a great location for bars, restaurants and shops and not very far from Old Town.

Nice is a tourist- friendly city. As it is your first time you are in for a treat. Public transport is easy, efficient and cheap.I know you will enjoy your trip

Hi Lyndar

I%26#39;d go for the apartment with aircon, for sure; 2 flights of stairs is not bad and the balcony, though small, will be lovely.

Both places are in good postions, but away from the sea and it will be very humid.

You will not want to open the widows at night because you are surrounded by bars and restaurants so it will be noisy till the early hours.

It%26#39;s a wonderful city - you%26#39;ll have a great time.

Cheers

Elaine

Place Massena and Ave JM are both busy thoroughfares so 1st floor Massena is going to be noisy-ish anyway even without having to open windows.

2nd floor is better - always in Nice the higher the better - and you can keep the windows closed if you have a/c.

If you go for Massena make sure that the owner provides plenty of fans. It is not possible to spend the summer in Nice without any form of cooling.

Thank you all so much for your replies, the second option it is!

OK - 2nd option but you really should check out the facilities. I hope the apartment has all it says it does but we stayed in an apartment in Croatia (owned by Brits) that was fully equiped and renovated but there was no oven and no microwave so all we had was a hob ..... and my partner had the flu for most of the ten days we were in Rovinj but the tight gits we rented from left the 2nd be3droom devoid of bed linen and it was all in all pretty bloody dreadful.

They also advertised the fact that they had prduced a tourist guide to the place but they didn%26#39;t have the courtesy to leave one in their most uncomfortuable apartment.
