train booking, accommodation in Villeneuve les Avignon

I am planning a holiday in the Avignon area by train - travelling from London? There seem to be various websites for this? Can anybody reccommend which is the best way to book. I do know there is one direct train but if unable to book this is the change at Paris easy?

Also could anybody recommend somwhere to stay in Villeneuve - thinking it would be quieter than Avignon but making it easy to visit the city without having to yse a car, looking for a small studio or B:B for two people.

We recently spent a week in Avignon, and stayed at at Maison Lumani, within the city walls, yet quiet - the river is on the other side of the wall. It%26#39;s a lovely old town house restored by the owners to a really comfortable and welcoming guest house. I have submitted a review and there are other good reviews on TA (look under the B%26amp;B Section). Its 10 mins stroll to the Palais Des Papes.

Villeneuve is lovely, but small - might be a bit limiting on choice of restaurants %26amp; things to do in the evening, if you are staying for more than a few nights.

Let me know how you get on with the train booking - we tried and failed (too difficult, too expensive).

Thank you for this information, have had a look at this accommodation and put down on my short list. I realise that Villenuve is quiet - but is it easy to get into Avignon from it? We live in a very rural area in Wales and am not too keen on staying in cities.

There is a bus service between Villeneuve and Avignon. I think we waited about 20 mins during the day. It takes about 10 mins (so it would not be too expensive by taxi if no bus service later in the evening.) The bus leaves Place Crillon in Avignon and travels along the main road at the bottom of Villeneuve - so you have to get off and walk up the hill to Villeneve itself.
