Outdoor activities in November?

Hi folks. We%26#39;re spending a week in Villefranche sur Mer this November (11-18th). Our plan is to combine public transit with lots of foot power, taking daily excursions around the region. We really enjoy hiking/treking in and outside of towns and the Cote d%26#39;Azur seems ideally suited for that. Just wondering if the weather is likely to %26quot;put a damper%26quot; on our ability to explore on foot? We%26#39;re from Canada, and rather used to cold/damp weather. However, day long torrential downpours would not be much fun. When we were in Tuscany this spring, it rained mostly everyday, but usually in the late afternoon and not for all that long. Got to the point where we hardly noticed it. Are we crazy to be thinking about hikes in mid November? Thanks...

Hi,

As a hiker myself, I would hardly call you crazy :) I hike pretty much year-round in this region.

November is usually the wettest month of the year here. And the rain comes down in drenching buckets - short buckets, with occasional sunny reprieve before or after, but very wet buckets. Think tropical weather like Hawaii or Florida (not sure of equivalent in Canada?...). Similar to what you described for Tuscany.

So you need to come prepared for both rain and sun and wind (more wind from Cannes on westward - Nice and VFM are usually sheltered). Bring some light-weight rain gear. Check forecast before heading out anywhere mountainous such as the hinterland north of Nice, Vence, Grasse.

When it comes to weather, there%26#39;s really no predicting only observation from the past. Preparation with a plan-B list and an open mind will guarantee a good time no matter the skies.

Enjoy!
