Budget Hotel for a friend's 1st Trip!

Hi all!

I%26#39;ve been to Paris several times and have my own peculiar habits when it comes to Paris in general and hotels in particular.

However, I have a friend who is making her first trip on her own in October and needs a budget place to stay. She originally was going to stay on the Periphique and take the Metro into town (until she told me of her plans). I %26quot;suggested%26quot; that for a 1st trip it would be more convenient and easier for her to stay within the %26quot;central%26quot; portion of Paris (Arrondisements 1-9).

She is going in October (1st week) and has a budget of no more than $110.00/night (U.S.).

I have recommended she stay on the Left Bank (or at least within the %26quot;central%26quot; 9 Arrondisements for her first trip) because that is where I have always stayed and have been quite comfortable. However, given her budget constraints, I would appreciate any recommendations for a single tourist for a week on her first trip for no more than $110.00/night (U.S.).

From my own biases, I have recommended against a hotel she found near Gare du Nord. I would appreciate if anyone would share their budget hotel experiences with me so I can help her out.

Thanks!
