rent a car or take train in normandy

Is it really expensive to rent a car in Caen for three days traveling to bayeux, beaches, and to Mont st michel. I am worried with the price of gas it might be better to take a train to all of those places.

My parents and I are planning on taking the train from Paris to Caen, renting a car for three days then take a train back to Paris.

Also are there car renting places open on sunday?

Public transport in many areas of France is sparse, Normandy is one of those areas, sure you can take a train from Caen to Bayeux, but not to the other sites you have mentioned.

Car is by far the best way of getting around and seeing the sites you want, unless you book a tour eg Battlebus.

IF you worry about the price of gas, you won%26#39;t do anything on your HOLIDAY!!

Your idea is great. The train from Paris to Caen is an easy way to get to the general area, and renting a car there is not so stressful as trying to do it in Paris.

If you have the chance, try to spend some time in Bayeux to see the tapestry. It%26#39;s well worth a little trouble.

Bon voyage.

Your plan is the best way to go. The major car rental agencies have their offices right outside the train station in Caen. However, last time we checked, they were closed on Sundays. Hertz - and maybe the others - would leave the keys and paperwork with the trainmaster at the station. Not the most convenient, but it works (We used to design custom tours in Normandy and we used Hertz for several customers). I would recommend spending one night in Bayeux and the next on the Mont-St-Michel - There is something mystical about that experience.

Have a great trip
