Hilton in Paris, Avenue de Suffren -- How is the...

How is the area around the Hilton in Avenue de Suffren? Any restaurants, coffee places, etc or is it too %26quot;downtown%26quot;? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I don%26#39;t know what you mean by %26quot;too downtown%26quot;. This is Paris. The Hilton is in the 15th Arrondissement, not that far from the tower, so I guess that would be fairly close to %26quot;downtown%26quot; since it%26#39;s in Paris Ville. It%26#39;s not in the Latin Quarter, but you%26#39;re close and you shouldn%26#39;t have any problem finding restaurants or cafes. Check out the following restaurant guide for locations near the hotel.

hilton is the closer hotel to the eiffel tower!!

the neighborhood is good...very residential, and it is directly in front of a playing field....I think soccer, so very grassy and picturesque....with of course the Eiffel Tower in full view on one side of the hotel. However, even though it is well run and extremely comfortable, it is old. There is a brand new Hilton which you should probably check out, right at the Arc d%26#39;Triomphe.

for restaurants, I headed to the Champs d%26#39;Elysee area....to Fouquet%26#39;s (for lunch), LaDuree (for coffee/tea, although Hilton Suffern provides a coffee pot and cups in the room....big convenience!), and Laurent for dinner. 5 min taxi ride, or long walk

and then there are the restaurants right in the Eiffel Tower...definitely walking distance

I know the area around Avenue de Suffren because the

photography store I use on my frequent trips to Paris

is there. Mostly a residential neighborhood, it has some

cafes and shops in the first four blocks off the River Seine

and it is very close to the Eiffel Tower.

The neighborhood is residential, quiet and appears safe. While there are not as many restaurants as in other areas, Ave. de Suffren has several bistros within a few blocks. The Metro and RER is nearby. The area also seems to have several antique stores. I think you will like the area as it%26#39;s a stones throw from the Eiffel Tower.

%26quot;There is a brand new Hilton which you should probably check out, right at the Arc d%26#39;Triomphe.%26quot; I agree with this poster. We just stayed at this hotel and it is brand new and very nice inside. Lovely residential area within walking distance of many restaraunts just 10 minutes from Champs Elysee. The concierge was great and made some recommendations and bookings for us. Try booking directly with the hotel as you will get a better rate.

Here are a couple of restaurants recommendations close to the Hilton. Turn right out of the hotel and turn right on Ave. de Suffern. Le Beaupre is about two blocks down on the right. La Chaloup is a seafood restaurant about 4 blocks further down on the left. There are several places within a block for coffee, etc.

I found a good website, www.viamichelin.com (I think - it could be viamichelin.fr; google viamichelin and you will find it) that is by the michelin map/tourism people. What I like about it is that you can specify an address and it will give you a lovely map. But then there are many sites that will do that. What viachelin will also do is plot all the restaurants around the address too. You have to go to the right side of the screen and there is a little feature that allows you to specify that you want to look for restaurants in that area. It will list them by: distance, as the crow flies, to your location, or it will use a few other criteria to sort (don%26#39;t remember what...) You can click on one of the restaurants and see the hours, the type of food, what credit cards it takes, etc. Very neat! I was looking at a hotel that had a McDonald%26#39;s across the street but it didn%26#39;t show up on the list. Michelin is somewhat choosey, I guess, about what it will list. I know that the Paris yellow pages does this kind of thing, too, but I found viamichelin easier to use. And it allowed me to save my results to a folder. You have to register if you want to save things to a folder (it is free) and I think it is useful because you can save maps, itineraries, etc., too.
