Parking in Nimes and other Provencal towns/cities?

We will be travelling via rental car in Provence later this month. In Nimes we want to see the Ampitheater, Roman Temple and the Jardins de la Fontaine. The satellite photos in Google don%26#39;t show any obvious parking areas...

Do you park on the streets (half on, half off, the sidewalk like the satellitte phots seem to suggest) or is there a central car park.?

What is the norm for parking in other towns e.g. St Remmy, Uzes?

Is parking half on, half off, the sidewalk sanctioned?

What signs (No-park areas) should we watch out for?

Merci!

There are several central car parks in Nimes but I think all/most of them are underground so that%26#39;s probably why they don%26#39;t show up on google. If you have a look at the tourist information site for the city there should be a map on there with car park details. We found them to be well sign posted but it seemed that some had quite low height limits which meant that we weren%26#39;t sure if our car with roof box would fit under the barrier (I think it was 1.8 or 1.9m).. We tended to try to park in side streets and had no problems finding a space in Nimes, though a little way from the centre - up a hill near a park I seem to remember. And that was free - always a plus!

Uzes has a central car park with plenty of space, except on market day when you either have to get there early or be prepared to drive round the car park waiting for someone to leave. There%26#39;s also lots of parking on main roads in where you may be lucky and get a space

I%26#39;ve never left my car parked half on sidewalk/pavement in France - not sure if it%26#39;s legal but I wouldn%26#39;t risk it personally.

Enjoy your trip!

Thankis - exactly the helpful advice that I needed.

Didn%26#39;t think of underground parking...

In St-Rémy you will find a good-sized car park across the street from the cathedral.

There is a large car park in St Remy by the tourist office on av. Pasteur, but be warned, it gets very full on Wednesday mornings when the market is on. Arrive early if you want to park there that day.

In Nimes, we drove around until we found some street parking. Our rental was pretty small, but we did not have problems finding street parking.

Thanks to all that replied - very helpful.
