Driving time to Avignon TGV @ Morning Rush Hour?

We have to drive from L%26#39;Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and drop our rental car off at the Avignon TGV station to catch a train departing at 7.47am on a Monday morning.

Google Maps says %26quot;28 km and 35 minutes%26quot; from L%26#39;Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to 43° 55%26#39; 26.9%26quot; N 04° 47%26#39; 13.5%26quot; E (Avignon TGV coordinates).

What time does Avignon %26#39;rush hour%26#39; start?

How long should we allow at this time on a Monday?

What is the recommended route to avoid potential choke points (especially, does the road over the A7 at Caumont-sur-Durance get choked)?

Merci!

Bump?

Well, I was going to answer this earlier, but I don%26#39;t live in Isle sur la Sorgue and so don%26#39;t make that route all that often. I have done it a time or two in afternoon rush hour. I would say you definitely need the 35 minutes. I would give myself a good bit more for getting lost, turned around or stuck in traffic.

The A7 does get busy, but it normally keeps moving. You could also take a non-autoroute if you wanted. Rush hour into Avignon starts around 7:30 am and gets pretty bad by 8 am. Some days are better than others, there is no way to know for sure. So, with your train departing at 7:47 am, you will beat any rush hour.

The other thing that comes into question is whether your rental agency will be open at that hour. If not, you will just be dropping off the car in the lot and dropping your keys into a drop box outside the agency doors.

Thanks Toutou.

Yes we will be dropping the keys. My main reason for asking is that I recall seeing (months ago) a post on the formus that warned that the roads over the A7 get backed-up with traffic. I think that the writer suggested avoiding the overpass at A7 at Caumont-sur-Durance (but I%26#39;m not confident on this point).

Considering you will be on the road by around 6:50 am, I really don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll see ANY traffic.

|||

Thanks again. Yes we%26#39;ll be through that area around 7am.

How far in advance do you need to be at the train station? Is 30 minutes before a good idea?

30 minutes for a first time traveler (to that station) is MORE than enough. The trains will not arrive until about 5 minutes before their scheduled time (unless they are delayed for some reason). They do not stay on the platform long either.

You will see a big board with all the arriving and departing trains and your train number will show which platform it will be arriving to. You go there and wait.

You%26#39;ll find it quite simple really.
