Getting to Disneyland - for dummies

Hi,

I%26#39;m visiting Paris for the first time in August for my honeymoon. We wanted to go to disneyland. Unfortunately we%26#39;ve never used the metro / RER and i%26#39;ve read all the posts and am still confused.

I%26#39;ve figured that the Metro is the underground train and the RER is a regular overground train. Is that right?

Firstly we%26#39;re staying in the Latin Quarter (Bel Ami hotel) so i%26#39;ve worked out we need to get the Metro first to Les Halles. Are all metro trips a set-price? So any ticket from a machine will do? Or so i need to specify what my journey is.

Then i%26#39;ve figured out at Les Halles to get the RER A to Marne-la-Vallee-Chessy. Do i just buy a return ticket for this at a booth? Or does it use the same tickets as the metro?

Thanks. I never really use Metros or trains in any cities. I always walk where possible.

Just to let you know there is a Disneyland site for Paris under the Marne-la-Vallee forum, they may be able to help you if you post it on there.

sorry but i don%26#39;t know :0)

Hi,

Are all metro trips a set-price while the price of the RER trips is according to the destination.

Marne la Vallee station is at Zone 5. Unless you have a weekly pass (Paris Visite or Carte Orange) that contains Zone 5, the best deal (and the most convenient solution) is to buy a Mobilis for Zones 1-5. A mobilis is a daily pass that gives you unlimited access within a day to the buses/metro and RER, and which can be bought at any metro/RER station. So, buy it in the nearest metro/RER and you%26#39;re set! Don%26#39;t forget to write the date and your name on the pass!

P.S. if you%26#39;re and/or your wife is under 26 and you plan to travel to Disney on Saturday or Sunday, you can buy a discounted daily pass which is called %26quot;Ticket Jeunes%26quot;.

Sorry, I had a typo, please ignore the first %26quot;Are%26quot;...

|||

So a mobilis will be all i need to do then the Metro and RER then? Can i buy it from a machine?

|||

Yes, you%26#39;ll need only the Mobilis for that day (if you%26#39;re staying for several days you should consider buying a weekly pass).

I bought it at a counter since I didn%26#39;t have a credit card with an electronic chip.I believe you can buy it at a machine too

RATP 101:

Both the metro and the RER go above ground and underground. The difference between the two is distance traveled. The metro ends shortly past the city limits, whereas the RER continues into the suburbs. It also has fewer stops and travels faster.

The metro has a flat fee (1.60E) for each journey - connections included. RER fares are set by distance, which is measured in zones. It costs 6.45E to go from Paris to Marne-la-Vallee. The Mobilis Zones 1-5 Day pass, which covers travel for the entire day, costs 12.90E.

Before boarding any RER train, look for a black digital sign near the platform. This display will tell you where the incoming trains are headed. They look like this one:

NOT ALL TRAINS go to the same destination. Some lines SPLIT into other lines, while some trains skip stops or do not travel to the end of the line. Make sure Marne-la-Vallee is lit. If you have doubts, ask.

When you arrive in Paris, ask the metro ticket counter attendant for two things:

1) Paris Poche - pocket map of the Paris metro, RER, and bus lines

2) Map of Paris - large map of Paris with tourist attractions and metro stations clearly labeled.
